On our way to Munich we stopped at a beautiful (and famous castle) just over the border between Austria and Germany.
Apparently this is the castle that Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty's castles were based on in the Disney movies.
There was a beautiful lake as well right next to it where we were lucky and saw a family of swans with their babies.
The walk up to the castle was only about a mile, but it was very steep and some people in my group almost didn't make it. But we all made it to the top eventually and went on a short tour of the castle that was built for King Ludwig who died a very mysterious death and the castle was never finished. Apparently he lived in the castle for only 172 days before he was found in the lake below and it was unclear as to if his death was an accident or he was killed (legend says that he was a werewolf).
Before we left to finish our drive to Munich I had my first German pretzel and it was really good!
When we finally reached Munich we got our rooms in the hostel we are staying at (which is kinda run down and yucky) and then left to go find dinner. On our way to dinner we had to take the metro and our tour guide was tired so he got a little turned around and I actually was the one that got us to where we needed to go, so I'm a little proud of myself for that. (I just really get the metro somehow even though I don't ever use it at home because the places I've lived don't have one.) We tried to go to the famous Hofbrauhaus, but it was packed and the group ended up splitting up and going to various restaurants. I ended up with a few others at this one place where I got some authentic German bratwurst (which was amazing).
A few people got beers and they were HUGE!
(Note: this was not mine, I stole someone's to get a picture for size purposes - I did try a sip though and it wasn't too bad, I think I like beer better than wine so far.)
After dinner everyone went out to the bars and another girl and I headed back to our room to take showers and go to bed. Tomorrow we get to explore Munich!
