Day 19: Free Day in Prague

As today was the first truly free day I've had this entire trip, I took advantage of it. I slept in this morning until 10:30 and then met up with a few other people in my group to wander around Prague. We went to the writer Franz Kafka's house, saw the astrological clock in the main square, went to the Jewish part of the city, stumbled upon a random collection of tractors outside of a concert hall, and I tried some traditional Czech garlic soup.
Kafka's house was actually just next to the square with the astrological clock and the apartment where he used to live is now a cafe and there is a really cool plaque on the wall to comemorate him.

After checking out Kafka's old home we walked into the square and found the astrological clock which was cool, but didn't really do anything when it chimed at the top of the hour. It was funny because there were so many people crowded around to see it and it was very anticlimactic. Fortunately our tour guide in Munich warned us about that and we only went to watch the people and to be able to say that we saw it.

(Note: if you want to hear a somewhat funny story when I get home, just ask me why I screamed in the middle of the square.)

From the square we wandered down to the Jewish part of the city to try to see the old Jewish graveyard and synagogue, but unfortunately you had to pay to see it and it was a bit pricey. We did see some cool buildings though and there were many Stars of David on the buildings and most signs were in Hebrew.

Then we made our way back to the metro to go to the hotel and found what looked like some sort of tractor display or competition or something outside of a concert hall. Nobody spoke English (or Spanish) so we never did find out what was going on.

Then we got back to the hotel and I went for an early dinner with 2 other girls where I tried some traditional Czech garlic soup that had meat, cheese, bread, and herbs in it.  It was actually really good and surprisingly filling.

After our early dinner we went back to the hotel to chill for the night and tomorrow we head back to Germany, but this time Berlin!
